From the movie - 2 days in Paris
Jack: Are you friends with all your exes?
Marion: I’m friends with some of my ex, you know most of them. You’re not friend’s with any of your exes?
Jack: No.
I can so relate to this. Is it just me or is it a guy thing?
Something to do with the male psyche, where mates are expected to go boozing, watch footy and stand shoulder to shoulder at the urinal with you.
On the other hand, if one was a SNAG*, drinking and watching footy does not appeal, throw in a bladder-fright-affliction, would one be more likely to remain friends with one's execs? Hmmm.... just wondering.

I had an ex who I remained friends with long after the breakup--we ended up getting married 13 years after we broke up. But, not a happy ending. As soon as she got pregnant 3 months after the marriage, she kicked me out. That was 12 years ago. I have a wonderful son as a result, and of course am happy to support him both emotionally and financially, but am stuck having to support HER as well, at least financially. I live 15 minutes away from them. In order to maintain peace and tranquility, my ex and I have a relationship like flatmates...we get along ok, but mostly because I no longer argue with her or question her about anything she does. Because, as we all know, men are always wrong. Right?
None of my ex'es have ever been friends with me afterwards - they were done, finished and had completley emotionally let go/wanted to move on. It sucks, but really, why would I want to be friends with someone when what I really wanted was their love ? second best is a poor consolation prize that will always leave you dissatisfied. How will you feel when He or She shows up with someone new and you are expected to be happy for them because you are "friends"? yuck.
Aoide/ Annie: depends on the partner I guess. Some are at peace with themselves, some resentful and others think it's just a waste of time.
Nigel: I hear ya. Best we STFU ;)
Well, being a chick it might not count, but Ive never stayed friends with any of my ex's....some I would be able to have a polite conversation with if I bumped into - and others would be wise to run in the other direction LOL
But hell, they are ex's for a reason, right?
aoide: I think you know which one I am..
lavender: Someone said, it's got to be really over, then maybe one can be mates. If on still harbours some "feelings" it's hard.
