I rue the demise of Crazy John's. Their service was excellent, even though helpdesk had an Indian accent. The $15 prepaid recharge that lasts 90 days, the 1c SMS, the free 500Mb data with every recharge and unlimited talk to others on the Crazy John's network. I could go the whole year and not exceed $60. For $29 extra you can add 6 months of Blackberry service.
Vodafone took over CJ a while ago and then decided to pull the plug. Their offering is 28c per SMS and calls charged at 89c per 1 minute plus 35c connection fee. Tried it, didn't like it.
Went for the Aldi offering. Aldi, the German supermarket chain, running on Telstra's 3G network. I get 12c SMS, 12c per minute calls and 5c per Mb data, all on a 365 day credit expiry. Number porting was a simple online affair. Activated my SIM at 7:30pm, number ported by 8:00pm.
Still to call helpdesk, hope I get a nice fraulein helping me out...
